Instructions & Guide

1. Rules

You get four cards. A is 1 and J, Q, K are 11, 12, 13. Use each number exactly once with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and parentheses so the result equals 24. Every hand has a solution, and fractions are allowed along the way.

2. Building an Expression

Tap cards and operators in order. The expression bar shows its current value as you go; used cards fade out and buttons that would break the expression are disabled. The answer is checked as soon as all four cards are used. On a keyboard, 1–4 pick cards and + − * / ( ) enter operators.

3. Hints & Show Answer

Hints come in three steps: which two cards to combine first, the first operation, then the second. If you have already started, hints follow your expression where possible. Show Answer fills in a solution and lists every distinct solution for the hand.

4. Difficulty & Time Attack

Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Master (always needs a fraction). Time Attack gives you 60 or 120 seconds to solve as many hands as you can; hints, skipping and showing the answer each cost 5 seconds. Records are kept per mode, difficulty and J/Q/K setting.

FAQ

How do you play the 24 game?

You get four cards. Use each number exactly once with +, −, ×, ÷ and parentheses to make 24, for example (1 + 2 + 3) × 4 for 1, 2, 3, 4. This page only deals hands that have a solution.

What are J, Q and K worth?

A is 1, and J, Q and K are 11, 12 and 13. By default only A to 10 are dealt; tick "Include J, Q, K" to add face cards.

Can intermediate results be fractions?

Yes. Everything is computed with exact fractions, so 8 ÷ (3 − 8 ÷ 3) = 24 for 3, 3, 8, 8. The Master difficulty deals only hands that need a fraction.

How is difficulty decided?

Every hand is solved in advance and scored by how simple its easiest solution is (fractions, division or negative steps) and how many distinct solutions it has, giving Easy, Medium, Hard and Master.
